Play Estate Winery 'Saignee' Rose, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Dry, slick, statuesque.
Having undergone a packaging makeover, Play's wine labels are looking quite lighthearted these days. The winery itself is outside of Penticton on Skaha Hills Drive and boasts some outstanding views from the winery and bistro.
This saignee (to bleed off colour from red grape skins, resulting in a rose) method pink is a rusty peach colour and is made from classic Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec. The packaging will grab you with its wide-bottomed bottle topped with a glass stopper.
Red currents and sour cherry, charred orange peel, cedar, tealeaf and faint spice aromas lead to a dry palate with flavours to echo the nose. Slick and quite statuesque, this is a pink that will stand up to grilled foods.
